Costa Rica

Costa Rica is a unique destination of amazing diversity.
The nature lovers will find in Costa Rica amazing national parks and reserves which are 27% of the country’s land, well known also for the outstanding wild Pacific beaches as well as white sandy Caribbean beaches. The food is good. The Costa Ricans are very friendly people and it is a peaceful country.


All of these things make you understand why over a million visitors choose to spend their vacation in Costa Rica every year, wanting to taste a bit from the "Pura Vida" (pure life) – commonly used expression all over the country.

Capital City - San Jose.

BordersNicaragua from the north (Peñas Blancas or Los Chiles).
               Panama from the south (Sixaola or Paso Canoas).

Language - Spanish. In the Caribbean part people speak also Creole dialect and sometimes english.

Currency – Costa Rican Colon.

Weather – The dry season is between December and April. Rainy season between May and November. Know that all over the Caribbean coastline in September and October there is danger of Hurricanes and storms. Usually it is not a problem and a lot of people travel in September & October, just check on the media if a storm arrives to the area from time to time.

Transportation - San Jose might be the gateway to most of your travels. Not all the roads are paved so sometimes a small distance can take hours. Don't count on the Buses timetables.
The international Airport is called Juan Santamaria in the city called Alajuela 17 km. out of San Jose.

Health:
It is recommended to have vaccinations of: hepatitis A+B, typhoid fever.
Consider to take with you mosquito repellent.

Special tips:
If you have lack of time or just want to make the transportation easier, you can rent a Jeep. A lot of travelers travel this way and enjoy the experience.

 

Money & Costs:

Hostel – 5-15$ per night.

Meal – 3-5$ in the Soda's (Soda is a local restaurant with typical food).

Buses are cheap. Outdoor activities can be expensive.
